Kaiserslautern region in figures
With more than 100.000 inhabitants, Kaiserslautern has been a "real" city again since 2016. This is particularly gratifying in view of the mega trend of population decline. Nevertheless, the region is facing up to the challenges of demographic change and is doing everything in its power to creatively implement the existing potential of the business location. This is one of the greatest challenges facing business development agencies.
The results are impressive. The number of jobs available in the Kaiserslautern region has been increasing for years and the number of employees subject to social insurance contributions continues to grow. The Kaiserslautern district has also tended to develop very well and has recorded a significant increase in jobs compared to previous years.
While 30 people were employed in the city and district of Kaiserslautern as of June 2023, 83.930, this number rose to 30 as of June 2024, 84.321.
Our two universities have also experienced rapid growth and are true job machines: Because the number of students increases, so does the number of employees.
Kaiserslautern has also developed into an attractive shopping city – and not just because of the location of the ECE shopping center “K in Lautern”. This is also proven by the high centrality index.
The centrality index is also referred to as a measure of the attractiveness of a region: it quantifies the inflow or outflow of purchasing power in the region.
