The RPTU at the Kaiserslautern site (until December 2022 Technical University of Kaiserslautern) is a young university. Since it was founded in 1970, it has managed to acquire an impressive reputation. Today it is the only technical and engineering-oriented university in Rhineland-Palatinate and offers more than 100 practical and future-oriented courses. As part of the Erasmus program, it offers well over 200 exchange opportunities at 150 universities in almost 30 countries.
The Rhineland-Palatinate Technical University of Kaiserslautern-Landau (RPTU) was created at the beginning of 2023 through the merger of the TU Kaiserslautern with the university location Landau.

Hochschule KL – science with practical relevance
Kaiserslautern University of Applied Sciences is a university of applied sciences (HAW) with a specialist focus on technology, business, design and health as well as computer science as an integrating cross-sectional competence at three locations in Kaiserslautern, Pirmasens and Zweibrücken. In four designated research areas, it inseparably combines study, research and development, and transfer, and looks back on more than 160 years of tradition in engineering education.
Through student work in companies, dual and extra-occupational study programs and practice-oriented research, it also promotes the exchange of ideas, knowledge and technologies with business and society. Research and development projects at Kaiserslautern University of Applied Sciences often take place in cooperation with companies. Kaiserslautern Open University
The distance learning center DISC (Distance and Independent Studies Center) makes it possible to study from anywhere in the world. Around 4.000 academics are currently using the courses offered by the DISC for their professional careers - more than at any other comparable distance learning institute in Germany. In a comparison of 40 long-distance universities, the DISC at the TU Kaiserslautern took first place as the “most popular long-distance university” and received the “Top Institute 2017” seal.

Cooperation with research institutes
The TU Kaiserslautern also maintains extremely successful cooperations with renowned study and research institutions that strengthen Kaiserslautern as a science location. The aim of this cooperation is to combine basic university research with application-oriented research outside the university, which enables the research and development of new innovations. The close cooperation between the TU Kaiserslautern and the various cooperation partners from science and industry creates an optimal connection between research and teaching. Not only the cooperation partners benefit from this, as they get access to the current results of basic research, but also students and young scientists, who are introduced to current practical issues during their training.
